Costa Rica Cruise
If you take a Costa Rica cruise, you'll traverse the Panama Canal and stop at Central America's most developed democratic republic which is bordered by Nicaragua on the north and Panama on the south. The beauty of the country is its varied scenery which includes lush green mountains and valleys, volcanoes, ranches, farmland, rolling hills, lovely streams and waterfalls, jungles, and beaches. In the center of the country, surrounded by mountains, sits San Jose, the capital, where tourists may wish to visit the many parks, the lavish Teatro National which is an outdoor theater, the National Museum with its archeological and historical artifacts, the Museum of Contemporary Art, the Museo de Oro with its displays of all kinds of gold, the Jade Museum, and the president's home. Coast Rica cruise ships call at either the Atlanta port of Limon or the nearby Pacific ports of Caldera and Puntarenas. On the Atlantic side, the best beaches are the National Park a Cahuita; on the Pacific they are on Nicaya Peninsula. From Puntaernas ferries traverse the Gulf of Nicaya to Tambor and Paquera. From Tambor or Paquera you can take a taxi to the beaches and hotels of Playa Tambor, Playa Montezuma, and Cabo Blanco. Costa Rica cruise ships generally offer excursions to San Jose, Sarachi where you can purchase the famous Costa Rican hand-painted oxcarts, the rain forest of Carrara Biological Reserve, horseback rides through tropical valleys and forests, river rafting, Poas Volcano National Park, and offshore islands. Those venturing out on their own hire a taxi at the port which can transport a maximum of four passengers and for about $150 for three to five hours see the beautiful countryside, visit the Carrara Rain Forest, and explore Jaco, where there is a long stretch of black-sand beach, horseback riding, souvenir shops, and several local restaurants. Unfortunately some of the more popular resort communities cannot be accessed during a one-day visit. A Costa Rica cruise is an ideal manner in which to enjoy traveling to this beautiful country.
